Attending a Red Sox Spring Training Game Since 1946, the Red Sox have held their annual spring training in Florida. For 25 years the Red Sox were a fixture at Payne Park located in Sarasota and then in Winter Haven for 26 years. In 1993 the Red Sox moved to City of Palms Park in Fort Myers.
City of Palms Park has a seating capacity of 7,800, including standing room, and it has been a hit with fans from the beginning. In their first season, the Red Sox drew 96,421 fans to 15 home games for and average of almost 6,500 per contest. By 2005, average home attendance had grown to
over 7,500 per game.
The stadium is done in a pure Florida style, with a main covered grandstand and palm trees past the outfield fence. There are two sections separated by a concourse: the section closest to the action contains box seats and the section past the concourse contains bleachers. Sitting in a neighborhood surrounding just outside of downtown Fort Myers, City of Palms Park is a few blocks away from the Red Sox
workout facility. For the true Red Sox fans and visitors from the northeast, newspaper racks outside the stadium sell copies of the Boston Globe and Boston Herald.
The fans at City of Palms Park carry on the tradition of the Red Sox Nation's rendition of the national anthem in full force. You'll think you've joined a choir! It isn't the Fenway Frank, but spoil yourself with a kosher dog from the free-standing stand in the concourse on the first base side.
