Toronto Blue Jays Spring Training Location History
1977-2008 Dunedin (Grant Field/Knology Park)

Attending a Blue Jays Game at Knology Park
Dunedin has been the only spring home for the Toronto Blue Jays. This year marks their twenty-fifth spring training season there.

Grant Field has a neighborhood feel. Located in a residential area, just minutes from Main Street, the ballpark sits quietly amongst quiet, tree-lined streets. You may enter to find the scorecard of the day's starting lineup in the main concourse while the public address announcer acknowledges the folks between innings operating the manual scoreboard in the outfield who have no shade from the blistering sun. The PA announcer will reference the current temperatures back in Toronto. You might also hear a sound effect-like "crash" over the loudspeaker when a ball is fouled out of play and into the adjacent parking lot (which is another reason why you should park on the street!).

In tribute to the minor leagues that spent time in Dunedin and graduated to the majors, once inside the main gate, a display honors players with names like Moseby, Stieb, and Barfield, among others. Also, pennants that commemorate the Blue Jays A.L. Championships and World Series victories, are a must-see for Blue Jays fans.

There's a little bit of Canada down on the Florida coast: both the Canadian and American national anthems are sung before the game, and Labatt Blue is on tap.

A new two-story building that will include a clubhouse, training room, weight room, and office space was built next to the stadium. A new minor-league facility now stands just north of the existing one and features a new clubhouses, offices, weight rooms, five full fields, four of them arranged in a cloverleaf formation with an observation tower in the center. A half field also will be built. After spring training is over, Knology Park at Grant Field becomes the home of the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Class A Florida State League.

Recently, the Blue Jays offered flights to Florida for spring training to season ticket holders who pay early. Fans paying before a December deadline received air fare to spring training in Dunedin. The first year in 2002, over 700 fans took advantage of the promotion. "When we first introduced the idea of flights to Florida plan, we were somewhat startled by the immediate and overwhelming response," said Blue Jays president Paul Godfrey.
